Second Act

It’s Never Too Late To Tell A New Story

At Second Act Farms, we see possibility and promise in all things — big and small, creatures and humans alike. Here, second chances and fresh starts are born.

Journalists-turned-farmers, Alex Granados and Mandy Locke found the footing to begin anew at their southern Alamance County home. That reset and renewal is a gift we want to share. Whether it’s a writing workshop or a fireside coffee with fellow seekers, our farm is the perfect place to center and search for due north.

Our second act includes you. If you are itching for a place to reset and reimagine, find that here. Harness your capacity to craft a new story in a tranquil space, flanked by fellow believers. Whether it’s the story we tell ourselves or the one that’s been told to us, we believe in the joy of starting a fresh chapter.

The Farm

We are a safe haven where animals experience a fresh start. Come spend time with our friendly donkeys and goats, and enjoy the cheerful chatter of chickens and ducks as you meander around the farm. Take a peaceful nature walk through our scenic grounds to decompress, reconnect with nature, and feel inspired by the simple beauty all around.

Write Your Feelings

Feel like screaming? Crying? Laughing? You aren’t alone. Mandy Locke, a journalist-turned-farmer and seasoned teacher, will guide participants through writing prompts to bring some order to your emotions. The day includes hands-on instruction, fresh lunch, and farm play or private writing in the afternoon.

Joseph Sledge House of Healing

Come witness and be a part of our biggest commitment to second acts. In partnership with the North Carolina Center on Actual Innocence, Mandy and Alex are creating the Joseph Sledge House of Healing for a wrongly convicted man or woman. Upon his or her release, an exoneree will move into a tiny home on our farm and work to find his new chapter.

The Dolly

Come refresh at The Dolly, an Airbnb tiny house we named in honor of the queen of storytelling. Romp our woods, visit goats and donkeys, cast a fishing line or float in our pond. A wood burning stove keeps the Dolly cozy during winter stays; the cedar insulated walls keep the tiny house cool in the summer.
