Feeling overwhelmed? You’re not alone.
Political shifts. Economic stress. Relationship strain. Or just the nonstop pace of it all—sometimes, it’s too much.

Hit pause at Second Act Farms.

Just an hour from Raleigh, Durham & Greensboro, this peaceful day retreat offers a chance to slow down and reconnect with yourself. Find calm and perspective through writing.

Murielle Elizéon, a French-American professional dancer and choreographer, and the co-director of Culture Mill in Saxapahaw, will lead participants in an embodied practice designed to cultivate deep listening and access the body’s innate wisdom. Mandy Locke, a journalist-turned-farmer and seasoned teacher, will guide participants through writing prompts to bring some order to your emotions. Writing can help us make sense of stubborn thoughts and see our way to clarity and opportunity. The exercise of writing can anchor unwieldy feelings.

Participants will write together in the morning, then enjoy a farm fresh lunch catered by the Saxapahaw General Store. In the afternoon, participants are welcome to find a peaceful spot to write at the farm.

Looking for something lighter in the afternoon? Visit with Mandy’s goats and donkeys, walk in the woods or connect with new friends. All are welcome to connect again that evening for a fire and reconnection.

Craving more than a day? Let Mandy curate a weekend experience for you in and around the village of Saxapahaw, a fun and funky enclave just 15 minutes from her farm. She’ll direct you to overnight stays (including one at her farm), dining and drinking options and a host of other restorative activities. Nestled on the Haw River, Saxapahaw offers canoeing or paddle boarding adventures, as well as walking trails and yoga classes.
